About Bonnie
Bonnie Schiada Maddox
BM, University of the Pacific Bonnie attended the University of the Pacific, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance, summa cum laude. While at Pacific, Bonnie was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional women’s music fraternity that was involved in philanthropic and musical events throughout the community. During the summers at Pacific, Bonnie has been an instructor and counselor for the Pacific Music Camps and Brubeck Institute Jazz Camp. She has also worked for Cazadero Music Camp and the Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony. After graduating from Pacific, Bonnie’s love for music and culture brought her to Die Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen, Germany where she studied with trombonists Abbie Conant (Munich Philharmonic) and Joseph Burnam (RAI Symphony in Torino Italy). She also had the opportunity to study Baroque trombone with Charles Toet (Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra) and trombone pedagogy with Gerhard Wolf. While she was living in Trossingen, home of the Hohner factory, she decided to pick up the accordion as well. For 5 years, Bonnie assisted with elementary band programs in Benicia, Vallejo, Dublin, and Livermore, helping young musicians learn to play flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. Currently, Bonnie teaches privately and freelances around the Bay Area. She’s performed on trombone with various groups such as the Montclair Women's Big Band, Lady Kaye & Her Kings of Swing, Diablo Symphony Orchestra, and Golden Gate Symphony. When she’s not onstage, Bonnie has been found in recording studios and in the depths of pit orchestras throughout the Bay Area, including YMTC in Berkeley, Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, and the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek. Bonnie and her husband Jay are low brass ambassadors for the adventure-seeking Awesöme Orchestra Collective. Find out how to get involved here: www.awesomeorchestra.org |
