After receiving two associates at the SRJC, Marisa earned a Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Arizona. There, she studied choral conducting with award winning educator, Dr. Elizabeth Schauer and voice with internationally known lyric soprano, Yunah Lee. As a capstone to her undergraduate degrees Marisa student-taught abroad in Norway where she joined the Rosendal Songlag as a Mezzo Soprano and soloist for the winter season. Marisa is a private voice coach, credentialed music educator in Arizona and California and former Director of Music for St. Mark in Oro Valley, Arizona. In addition to her work with the Petaluma School of Music, Marisa is Artistic Director for Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus, director of Cinnabars women’s chorus, the CinnaGals, and will begin teaching secondary choir and elementary general music for Summerfield Waldorf School this fall. When she’s not teaching, you’ll find Marisa singing with Cantiamo Sonoma, a chorus which specializes in unaccompanied music from the Renaissance through the 21st century.
At the Petaluma School of Music, Marisa teaches singing and vocal technique to students of all ages, as well as beginning piano, and beginning guitar. Her teaching philosophy is deeply influenced by the Kodály method, which holds that educational approaches should follow the natural rhythms of a child’s development. Marisa is dedicated to instilling a strong foundation in technique, theory and music appreciation that will inspire life-long musicians and music enthusiasts.
