Little Notes' - Song & Music (Currently 18mos-3yrs)

Miss Melody Caspari - teaching

I can feel the beat of the music as you tap on
my knee or bounce me on your lap.  I bob my head and body as soon as the music starts.  My favorite sight is the smiling face singing with a big expression, and I move my mouth ever so slightly as my impulse to speak and sing wells up insde me!  In my class I have bells to jingle on my feet, castanets to hold and snap, bongos to pat, violins to strum.  I feel the textures of smooth woodblocks, cold metal triagles, fluffy puppets, silky scarves, scratchy sand blocks, bouncy balls, shiny cymbals.  My eyes follow the falling bubbles as I listen to Bach.  This is my favorite place:  a place full of wonders for all my senses.

I can walk!  I can twirl!  I can run!  I have my own specail funny dance!  I'm singing to my favorite songs now.  I know the difference between soft and loud, low and high, slow and fast.  With my instruments I can make the sound of a ticking clock, a tapping woodpecker, a snapping clam, a rolling bear, a chugging choo-choo, rain and thunder.  I'm falling in love with music and my favorite instrument is the violin.  At least for today.  Last week it was the guitar.  And I like the tambourine too.  Especailly as a hat.  And those bongos make great chairs.  Gotta run!  Teacher is singing my favorite song and I've got some bubbles to catch!

Wow!  I'm getting good at this music stuff.  Not only can I sing and dance and play a tremolo on my violin, but I can put notes on the lines and spaces of the big felt staff and teacher plays what I write!  I'm starting to keep a steady beat, and I take some turns conducting the other kids with softs and louds.  I can blow the trombone, crash the cymbals, strum or pick the guitar, and make the great big cello sing out loud and low.  I can hop like a bunny, fly like a bird, dig like a puppy, and spin like a top.  I can do it all!

Music is mine!  I'm a champ!  I can keep a beat, sing my name, build a rhythm with popsicle sticks, sing so-la-so-mi from seeing it on the staff, play a rhythm on a woodwind, a brasswind, a stringed instrument, or one of 15 percussion instruments from all over the world!  I can't wait to learn how to play a "big" instrument when I'm just a little older.  What will it be? Piano?  Sax?  Trombone?  Cello?  Violin?  I'll try them all!
